I would wonder why metal has not been detected where they crossed the Red Sea? The army had swords and spears, etc.

The armaments washed up on the shore with the bodies of the Egyptian army and the Israelites were able to collect those for use in future warfare. The Bible says an east wind blew and congealed the waters on both sides of the pathway. The Israelites were heading EAST across the Red Sea to Saudi Arabia, so naturally as the sun came up and thawed the frozen walls of water, the initial water flow would have been from west to east, pushing most of the remains of the army to the Saudi side of the sea.
